Date: September 1980

Created as part of a joint venture between Tandy and Motorola, the Color Computer (referred to as the CoCo), was introduced to the US market for $399. Interestingly, the original purpose for the machine was as a low-cost terminal for the agricultural industry. The modem was removed, and I/O ports and a cartridge slot were added so the computer could be targeted at the home market. While sharing the name TRS-80, there was no compatibility with earlier Z80 based TRS-80s. Versions 2 and 3 were released in later years with improved hardware and video.
