The IBM Portable was IBM?s answer to the Compaq Portable which was released one year earlier. It used the same motherboard as the IBM PC which means it also had eight expansion slots. Three of these slots are not usable due to the disk drive placement. The 5155 was IBM?s only luggable PC. Later IBM would offer the PC Convertible model 5140. This model was more like a traditional modern laptop with fold up display and a battery.
