The Lawrence J. and Florence A. DeGeorge Memorial Recording Studio
The Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut is home to a vintage recording studio, set up to resemble a typical recording studio of the 1970s era, but with digital mastering capabilities and equipment from the 1960s through the 1980s.
The studio was paid for out of a generous donation from the Lawrence J and Florence A. DeGeorge Charitable Trust and features an approximately 18'X18' studio space and a control room. Some of the vintage equipment in the studio includes:
- A 1960s Premier Drum Set
- 1974 Fender Bassman Amplifier with Music Man Cabinet
- Series I Yamaha DX7
- Roland A-30 Control Keyboard
- Roland MT-32 Module
- Kurzweil MicroPiano Module
- Rockman Sustainor
- 1960s Conn Full Tube Organ with Bass system
- 1988 Fender Stratocaster
- 1980s Peavy Fury Bass
- DOD X Band EQ
- Alesis Compressor/Gate
- Otari Reel-to-Reel
- 1939 XX Microphone
- RCA XX "Elvis" Microphone
- 2X XX Microphone
The studio is home to The Radio Workshop Players performing group and is also available for rental by local bands and performing groups. All recordings are handled by the Mackie Tracktion recording suite.
An extra vintage option of the studio is the ability to master recordings onto one of the Otari reel-to-reel machines, or to cut your own record on the museum's fully functional Rek-O-Kut mono record lathe.
